Non-European Visiting Professors
Before the arrival in Italy, the Professor has generally to ask for a Visa to the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country of residence. It is important to contact well in advance the Italian Embassy/Consulate in order to know the relevant documentation required to obtain a Visa. Nevertheless, it must be noted that a Visa can be requested only after having received a copy of the authorization (“nulla osta”) to issue a Visa by the Police (Questura).
It is therefore important to take immediately contact to the Welcome Office in order to receive appropriate assistance and detailed information on the different steps to be followed.
Main steps to be followed after being selected:
After arriving in Italy, in case of a stay less than 90 days, the professor will not need to apply for a Residence Permit, but, within 8 days from the entrance on the Italian territory, he/she will need to go to the Police (Questura) for the declaration of presence (if not exempted).
In case of a stay longer than 90 days, within 8 days from the entrance on the Italian territory, the professor must apply for a Residence Permit. The request must be presented to a Post Office through the “Sportello amico” services. It is suggested to keep always the receipt received at the Post Office for any request of check by the Police.
