The University system

The Italian University system is divided into three cycles:

First cycle:
Bachelor Degree - (Corso di Laurea triennale)
180 credits, duration 3 years.
Qualification required: High School Diploma with 12 year of schooling.
Academic qualification: Dottore (in Italy).

Second cycle:
Master Degree and Single cycle master degree - (Corsi di Laurea Magistrale e Magistrale a ciclo unico)
120 credits Master Degree, duration 2 years
300 credits Single cycle master degree, duration 5 years
Qualification required: First cycle degree for Master degree and High School Diploma with 12 year of schooling for Single cycle master degree.
Academic qualification: Dottore magistrale (in Italy).

Third cycle:
Doctoral degree (PhD)  -
Qualification required: Second cycle degree.
Academic qualification: PhD (doctor).

Specialisation Schools: programme duration established in the relative teaching regulation.
Qualification required: Second cycle degree.
Academic qualification: Specialist.

The University also has First level post graduate Professional masters and Second level post graduate Professional masters.

First level post graduate Professional masters: 60 credits, duration 1 year.
Qualification required: First cycle Degree.
Academic qualification: Certificate of Attendance.

Second level post graduate Professional masters: 60 credits, duration 1 year.
Qualification required: Second cycle degree.
Academic qualification: Certificate of Attendance
