Professional profile
The Summer School in Vatican Law aims to train specialists in essential, scientific and professional knowledge of the Vatican's legal system.

The goal of the Summer School
The Summer School aims to help you achieve basic knowledge of the Vatican's legal system, paying detailed attention to the most significant theoretical and practical profiles of the different branches of the Vatican's juridical knowledge.

Audience
The Summer School is open to scholars of international law, EU law, canon law and State law on religion.
The Summer School will also appeal to those who work in public and private, international and national institutions, that have relationships with institutions of the Holy See and of Vatican City, and all those who have an interest in deepening their knowledge of the Vatican City State's legal system.

Summer School Content
The Summer School provides necessary knowledge on the Vatican's legal system, delving into the substantive and procedural aspects and also analysing the basic principles of canon law in its connections with Vatican law.

Schedule
Topics include: historical introduction to the Vatican City State; introduction to Canon Law; the relationship between Vatican Law and Canon Law; the Holy See and the Roman Curia; guarantees of freedom of the Holy See; relationship between the Holy See and the Vatican City State; constitutive and constitutional principles; profiles of International Law; sources of Vatican Law; the judicial system; Vatican Substantive and Procedural Civil Law; Vatican Substantive and Procedural Criminal Law; Labour Law; Administrative Law; extraterritoriality; financial and monetary system; money laundering legislation.

Among the professors there are: prof. Giuseppe Dalla Torre; prof. Carlo Cardia; prof. Paolo Papanti Pelletier; prof. Angelo Rinella; prof. Nicola Selvaggi; prof. Paolo Cavana; prof. Roberto Baratta; Esq. Jeffrey Lena.
Leaders of the Holy See and the Vatican City State Institutions are attended to hold some of the programmed lectures.

Extra cultural activities
Guided tours to: Vatican City State Tribunal; Vatican Gardens; Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura; Vatican Museums; Sistine Chapel; Papal Palace of Castel Gandolfo.

Period
Classes will be held from Monday, 17th July, 2017. The course is scheduled to finish on Friday, 28th July, 2017.

Registrations
Deadline: 31st May 2017.

Applications for registration will be accepted until the maximum number of participants is reached, as above specified.
There are no specific entry requirements (admission will be based only on application date).

How to submit an application:
The application form, accompanied by the required documents, must be delivered to the following address: LUMSA - Segreteria Master, via Pompeo Magno, 22 – 00192, Rome.
The request may be sent to the certified email address segreteriastudenti.lumsa@pec.it or to the standard email address perfezionamento@lumsa.it, or hand delivered to the Segreteria Master (the Master Secretary) on Tuesdays from 15:00 to 17:00 or Fridays from 12:00 to 14:00.
Applications received by uncertified email will be valid only if answered by the Master Secretary. If the application is sent by email the original application must be delivered to the Tutor during the first day of the course.
Application will held in consideration only if received complete, with all the required documents.

Registration fee and payment methods

  • Course fee: € 2,500.00.
  • Application fee: € 500,00 to be paid at registration, by 31st May, 2017 (In case of failure to reach the minimum number of students the sum of € 500.00 will be returned).
  • Tuition fee: € 2,000.00 to be paid by 30th June, 2017.

The registration fee includes: cost of the course; teaching materials.

The registration fee does not include: travel expenses; accommodation; meals; costs for recreational activities; transport costs.

Accommodation and breakfast: rooms are available at the "Regina Mundi" residence situated in Piazzale Aldo Moro, 9 - 00185 Rome.
Accommodation fee, including breakfast, from 16.07.2017 to 28.07.2017 (12 nights and 13 days) amounts to € 540.00 (daily tourist tax of € 3.50 is not included).

Certificate awarded
At the end of the Summer School, after passing the final exam and subject to regular attendance, you will receive a certificate for participation in the ''International Summer School in Vatican Law" from the Scuola di Alta Formazione in Diritto Canonico, Ecclesiastico e Vaticano (School of Advanced Studies in Canon Law, State Law on Religion and Vatican Law).
